Defensive Driving Tips
To be a defensive driver, you must utilize your eye movements correctly. The key is knowing where to look and what to look for.
Most drivers that are presently operating motor vehicles do not look far enough ahead to give them the time necessary to avoid accidents. The average driver only has ¾ second to see the problem, decide how to handle it, and avoid the accident situation. Studies show if drivers had an extra second of reaction time, 80% of all accidents would be avoided. To get that extra second, we simply need to look further ahead up the road. When you have the ability to, you should look ahead as far as you can to see clearly and distinctively.

How far ahead should we be looking?
2 Blocks, then drop back to 1 block, then 2-3 car lengths ahead.
Varying how far ahead we look allows the brain to interpret the information it receives from the eyes correctly.
