City Driving vs. Highway Driving

City Driving:

City driving can be more dangerous because you will encounter:

• Intersections with traffic signals and stop signs
• Vehicles turning right on red
• Vehicles turning out of parking lots/shopping centers
• Pedestrians
• Skateboarders
• Bicyclists
• Scooters
• Emergency vehicles
• School zones
• School buses

Most accidents in the city happen in the right and left lane. If the street you are traveling on has three or more lanes, drive in the middle lane as it gives you multiple escape routes.

Highway Driving:

Highways are usually our safest roads for the following reasons:

• Access is limited
• No intersections
• No sharp curves
• No traffic signals
• No pedestrians or bicyclists

It is against the law to cross the solid white line when entering or exiting the highway.

For safer driving on the highway, look further ahead, increase your following distance and maintain your speed.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol 85 % of accidents on the highway could be avoided by giving yourself more following distance. Most accidents happen in the right and left lane so make sure to drive in the middle lane as it gives you multiple escape routes.
